A month or so ago I got up early in the morning to do some box scraping and loader work. It wasn't even 30 degrees outside when I started using the tractor.
I used the tractor pretty hard and non stop for about 6 hours or so, at which time the temperature was about 70 degrees outside. Between the raising of the outside temperature and the friction produced inside the axle from all the work I was doing with the tractor, so much pressure built up inside the axle that the seals on both front wheels began to leak.
I popped the dipstick out to release the pressure figuring that would solve the problem, and it did on the one side, but the other wheel now has a slow leak no matter what tepmerature it is. It just stays constantly wet on that side now.
Isn't it kind of crazy not to have a breather on the axle somewhere? Is there a breather somewhere that I don't know about? If there isn't, I wonder if it would pay to make one to fit into the dipstick hole with a hose attached to run somewhere where dirt and dust will not be able to enter.
Anyways, my real question is whether or not I should take it back to have my dealer fix it under warranty. It's a little irritating to have oil leaking all the time now on what is really a nearly new tractor... not even 2 years old with 200+ hours. Let me know what you folks think I should do. thanks.

I get a small whoosh from my front axle dipstick when I check the oil even if the tractor hasn't been running. I don't think much about it, and I'm not sure if any tractors have vents on the front axles.
I'm not sure the experience definitely and certainly is conclusive that internal air pressure damaged the seals. However whatever the cause, a tractor shouldn't leak with 200 hours of normal use and normal oil levels. I'd get it fixed under warranty.

I would definitly haul it back and have it fixed. If oil can get out then dirt/grime can get in. It's figured that if the fluid level is kept at the proper line there should be enough air space to handle any pressure buildup without damaging the seals and not require a vent that might let in debris under the opposite condition. ....

I am pretty sure Tomg, that air pressure did the deed. It wasn't just a normal woosh of air that came out when i opened the dipstick... it made quite a pop. And it seems hard to believe that both the right and left side of the axle began to leak at the same time for any reason other than air pressure. That aside, I suppose I will have them fix it. I hate being without my tractor for any length of time as it seems as though I use it almost every day. thanks. ....
